With over three decades as a professional touring musician, Eliades Ochoa comes to the city of Los Angeles to delight the public with his flavorful musical repertoire from the Santiago de Cuba region. His innovative playing is deeply rooted in the Son Cubano musical tradition. Over the years Eliades Ochoa has created Son Cubano classics that have made him an internationally known musician.
Eliades Ochoa was born June 22, 1946 in Loma de la Avispa, Songo La Maya, near Santiago de Cuba. He began playing the guitar when he was only six years old and in 1978 was invited to join Cuarteto Patria as the leader. Ochoa agreed to join the celebrated group which had been around since 1939, but only if he could act as the group's leader and introduce new elements to the group's sound.
Eliades Ochoa is a multi-instrument player whose musical arsenal includes the tres, a guitar-like three-course chordophone and a variant called cuatro (with two additional strings). He reached worldwide fame in 1999 due to his involvement with the Buena Vista Social Club and the Wim Wenders film of the same name.
Also joining in this one night only performance is Bárbaro Alberto Torres Delgado, best known as Barbarito Torres (born in Matanzas, Cuba, 1956), is aCubanmusician best known for his work with the Afro Cuban All Stars and theBuena Vista Social Club. Torres plays the laúd, a traditional Cuban instrument of the lute family that is most associated with the Guajiro genre. He currently tours worldwide with the band Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club.
