THE LOS ANGELES DODGER FOUNDATION JOINS READ CONMIGO IN
ITS ONE MILLION STORYBOOK MILESTONE CELEBRATION
Over 50 Greater Los Angeles Youth Organizations to Receive Free Bilingual Books During the Event
WHAT: The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) has partnered with national award-winning bilingual literacy program, Read Conmigo, to celebrate an important milestone - more than one million storybooks given away since the program’s creation in 2011. The program’s goal is to raise parental awareness about the importance and benefits of education and literacy.
To continue making significant strides to improve childhood literacy in the area, both organizations will be distributing more than 10,000 additional bilingual books to LADF and Read Conmigo partners during festivities at the ballpark Thursday. More than 50 youth and literacy organizations as well as schools and districts will be present.
WHEN: Thursday, October 1, 2015
10:00 a.m.
WHERE: Dodger Stadium – Stadium Club
WHO: Manny Mota, Dodger alum and broadcaster
Nichol Whiteman, LADF Executive Director
Fabi Harb, Read Conmigo West Coast Manager
MISC: Research shows that access to adequate reading materials at home, along with active parental involvement in a child’s reading habits at a very young age, is key to their academic success. By providing local youth organizations, schools and school districts with the bilingual storybooks to students, LADF and Read Conmigo hope to bridge the gap for many bilingual parents in the Greater Los Angeles area that are not able to read to their children in English or Spanish due to the language barriers and make it a core activity at home.
