PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR IN THEATERS NOV 26
After three successive hit movies with Madagascar (2005), Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008), and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (2012), DreamWorks Animations has decided to come out with a brand new family comedy spin-off film Penguins of Madagascar (2014), following everyones favorite penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private. A month before the release of the movie Dreamworks Animation and the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California decided to team up to bring one of the world’s beloved penguins (Skipper) to life.
The Aquarium of the Pacific’s celebration of the Penguins of Madagascar was a grand ceremony for the naming of their newest baby penguin. This family event didn’t disappoint with its fun face painting, free stuffed animals, and penguin dancing, but it was made even better with a surprise trip to the June Keyes Penguin Habitat, were almost 18 penguins live together enjoying the weather on the California Coast.
Although having a baby penguin named “Skipper” after the movie character is a fun notion, the addition of for the Aquarium means a better understanding of the species Latin American Magellanic breed. With little Skippers mother hailing all the way from the coast of Brazil where she was rescued before making her way to the Aquarium, she is one of the worlds fewest Magellanic penguins held in captivity. Early this year she delivered several adorable babies, one being sociable, charismatic Skipper.
Before the official naming ceremony inside the Aquarium of the Pacific’s large theater, we were greeted by the voice of Skipper, Tom Mcgrath, a director, voice actor, and animator, who was the brains behind the addition of the goofy, down right hilarious penguins into the original Madagascar. The first 5 minutes of the movie were played to the joy of the crowd. Afterwards Skipper made his official debut as he was rolled onto a stage in an incubator, with one of his older brothers who decided to waddle down the aisle himself. The tie over little baby’s name tag was cut officially making him “Skipper” for all visitors to the June Keyes Penguin Habitat to see.
