Salsa Fest to be heldMay 20-24 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, listeners of the popular salsa show on KPFK, “Canto Tropical,” will be treated to live interviews with salsa legends from the congress site on Saturday, May 23 from 8-10 p.m.
 
“We are so thrilled to offer our listeners this exciting evening of radio,” says Katharine A. Díaz, host of “Canto Tropical.” Better known as “La Rumbera” to listeners of the show that airs every Saturday on KPFK-90.7 FM from 8-10 p.m. adds,“Not all of our listeners can attend the congress, yet they will be able to share in the excitement and hear from some of their favorite artists.”
 
Both, Diazand her co-host, Armando “El Caballero Salsero” Nila will be at the congress site, coordinating the interviewees, while simultaneously continuing the efforts for the spring fund drive for KPFK and the show that is running concurrently.
 
“Canto Tropical” has aired on KPFK, a public radio station, since 1986 and remains one of the most popular salsa radio shows in Southern California due to its quality programming and KPFK’s wide reach with its more than 100,000 watts of broadcast power. Entering its 30th year on the air, host and co-host Díaz and Nila are committed to playing the best music from local and international artists and giving them a voice on their show.
