Basada en la atrapante historia verídica de supervivencia - y filmada con la cooperación de los verdaderos mineros, sus familias y sus rescatadores - “The 33” muestra las nunca antes vistas trayectorias personales y los milagrosos eventos que se desarrollaron, sobre y bajo la tierra, que se convirtieron en nada menos que un fenómeno global.
El elenco internacional está encabezado por Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, la ganadora del Academy Award Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient”), James Brolin, y Lou Diamond Phillips, con Bob Gunton y Gabriel Byrne. El elenco principal también incluye a Mario Casas, Jacob Vargas, Juan Pablo Raba, Oscar Nuñez, Tenoch Huerta, Marco Treviño, Adriana Barraza, Kate Del Castillo, Cote de Pablo, Elizabeth De Razzo, Naomi Scott, Gustavo Angarita, y Alejandro Goic.
Patricia Riggen dirigió “The 33” de un guión de Mikko Alanne, el nominado al Oscar Craig Borten (“Dallas Buyers Club”) y Michael Thomas, basado en la historia para la pantalla de Jose Rivera y el libro Deep Down Dark por Hector Tobar. La película fue producida por el nominado al Oscar Mike Medavoy (“Black Swan”), Robert Katz y Edward McGurn, Carlos Eugenio Lavin, Leopoldo Enriquez, Alan Zhang y José Luis Escolar sirvieron como productores ejecutivos.
El equipo creativo detrás de cámara incluyen el cinematógrafo Checco Varese, diseñador de producción Marco Niro, el editor Michael Tronick y el diseñador de vestuario nominado al Oscar Paco Delgado (“Les Misérables”). El equipo ganador del Academy Award Alex Henning y Ben Grossman (“Hugo”) supervisaron los efectos visuales. La música fue compuesta por el ganador del Oscar James Horner (“Titanic”).
“The 33” fue filmada en locación en el severamente remoto pero maravillosamente hermoso desierto de Atacama en Chile, a sólo kilómetros de donde el evento tuvo lugar y dentro de dos minas localizadas en Colombia central.

Over the next 69 days, an international team worked tirelessly in a desperate attempt to rescue the trapped men as their families and friends, as well as millions of people they had never even met, waited anxiously for any sign of hope. But 200 stories beneath the surface, provisions—and time—were quickly running out.
A story of resilience, personal transformation and triumph of the human spirit, the film takes us to the Earth’s darkest depths, exploring the private lives and psyches of the men trapped in the mine, and depicting the courage of those who refused to give up.
Based on the gripping, real-life survival story—and filmed with the cooperation of the real-life miners, their families and their rescuers—“The 33” shows the never-before-seen personal journeys and miraculous events that unfolded, above and below ground, which became nothing less than a global phenomenon.
The international cast is led by Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient”), James Brolin, and Lou Diamond Phillips, with Bob Gunton and Gabriel Byrne. Carlos Eugenio Lavin, Leopoldo Enriquez, Alan Zhang and José Luis Escolar served as executive producers.
The behind-the-scene creative team included cinematographer Checco Varese, production designer Marco Niro, editor Michael Tronick and Oscar-nominated costume designer Paco Delgado (“Les Misérables”). The Academy Award-winning team of Alex Henning and Ben Grossman (“Hugo”) supervised the visual effects. The score was composed by Oscar winner James Horner (“Titanic”).
“The 33” was filmed on location in Chile’s harshly remote yet stunningly beautiful Atacama desert just kilometers away from where the event took place and deep within two mines located in central Colombia.
