TEN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ARTISTS TO PAINT MURALS THROUGHOUT LOS ANGELES AS PART OF RED BULL LATAGRÁFICA EDICIÓN II
One Artist to Design the Second Edition of the Red Bull Latagráfica 12 oz. Can
SANTA MONICA, CA (February 12, 2014) – Initially launched in 2012, Red Bull Latagráfica was created to give artists local to Southern California the opportunity to create original artwork and display it on a new medium, a Red Bull 12 oz. can. David Flores, who then lived in Boyle Heights and now lives in Long Beach, won the opportunity through an online contest to display his artwork on grocery and convenience store shelves in select U.S. locations. In 2014, the project is returning to the city in which it started, but this time as Red Bull Latagráfica Edición II. From January through October, 10 pre-selected artists will each paint one mural that will live on walls in Los Angeles. One of the ten artists will be invited to create the artwork for the second ever Red Bull Latagráfica can, or Edición II which will hit shelves in early fall.
The first mural, painted by Lincoln Heights-based artist Fernando Barragan, can be seen in the city’s bustling Plaza de la Raza. Each of the ten murals will be tied together by the inspiration “puedes,” which translates to “you can.” Barragan’s interpretation of “puedes” resulted in beautiful aspects of symbolism throughout his mural such as a ladder to represent the ability to rise above, a body in the shape of a guitar to encourage becoming your own instrument and people holding hands to display a sign of togetherness.
The remaining nine murals will be completed mid-month, each month by the following artists: White Buffalo (February), Chris Sanchez (March), Vyal One (April), The Date Farmers (May), Germs (June), Man One (July), Wenceslao Quiroz (August), Frank Romero (September), and Ernesto Yenera (October).
