RELEASES NEWEST SINGLE “CHANTAJE”
FEATURING MALUMA VIA SONY MUSIC LATIN
MIAMI (October 28, 2016) - Multi-platinum, GRAMMY® Award-winning singer/songwriter and global recording artist Shakira released her new single “Chantaje” today. “Chantaje” is Shakira’s first official Spanish-language single since the release of “La La La” off her self-titled album Shakira in 2014. The highly anticipated new track is a collaboration with fellow Colombian artist, Maluma.
The single was written and Produced by Shakira and Maluma with Kevin Jimenez, Chan “El Genio” and Kenai.
The video for “Chantaje” was recently filmed in Barcelona, Spain with video director Juame De La Iguana. The new single follows Shakira’s recent successful collaboration with Carlos Vives “La Bicicleta” which remains a global hit. The record-breaking song topped the charts in Colombia where it remained #1 for 18 consecutive weeks and in Spain where it remained #1 on the charts for 13 weeks. The song also reached #1 on the US Latin charts as well as Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama. Shakira is currently in the studio working on her upcoming album.
Over the course of her career, Colombian singer-songwriter and GRAMMY® winner Shakira has sold over 60 million records worldwide and has won numerous awards including two GRAMMYs®, eight Latin GRAMMYs®, and several World Music Awards, American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards, to name a few. She is the only artist from South America to have a number one song in the US, and has had four of the 20 top-selling hits of the last decade. At the age of 18, she founded the Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation which currently provides education and nutrition to over six thousand impoverished children in Colombia and is expanding its work to other countries, including newly launched projects in Haiti and South Africa. The video, shot in Shakira and Carlos’s hometowns of Barranquilla and Santa Marta, respectively, has over 350 million views on Vevo to date. Shakira is currently back in the studio recording new music for an upcoming Spanish-language release.
